We are thrilled to share that Transdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellow Alum and PTBi researcher, Deborah Karasek, was selected to be a coveted K12 Scholar in the Building Interdisciplinary Research in Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) program. The competitive program supports a diverse group of early-career women's health researchers to target important yet understudied topics in women's health.
Dr. Karasek has been with PTBi since her fellowship began in 2017. Since joining the first fellowship cohort, Karasek has gone on to co-lead the evaluation of the first pregnancy income supplement program in the US, led by Expecting Justice, San Francisco’s Collective Impact program. Called, Abundant Birth Project (ABP), the program will provide unconditional cash supplements to Black and Pacific Islander pregnant people as a strategy to reduce preterm birth and improve economic security
