PTBi held its annual Strategic Advisory Board (SAB) meeting in April to discuss PTBi’s recent successes and gain insights and advice on our plans for the future.
Chaired by the UCSF Chancellor, Sam Hawgood, PTBi’s SAB is composed of inspiring thought leaders in philanthropy, birth research and race equity as well as experts with lived experience who also serve as members of PTBi’s Community Advisory Board (CAB). Meet the full SAB here.
Due to COVID restrictions, this year’s meeting was held virtually on Zoom. While we missed being able to see each other in person and break bread together, we were able to have a vibrant discussion covering diverse viewpoints. The SAB was impressed by the progress made since our previous annual meeting, especially with PTBi's explicit focus on the impact of structural racism on birth outcomes and on the successful and innovative integration of community into the work. They also appreciated the importance of sustaining PTBi's work beyond the current funding period and strongly recommended that the commitment to community leadership and the voice of the patient be preserved moving forward.
Huge thanks to all of our SAB members for your time and input. We are also grateful for the PTBi researchers, staff, partners and community advisory board members that presented their work, experiences and personal stories. Special shout outs to Nayeli Bernal, Linda Jones, TaNefer Camara, Michele Poole, Zea Malawa, Breezy Powell and Hope Williams for their critical contributions at the meeting and big kudos to Selina Lao and Riya Jacob for organizing this important occasion.
