Fresno County Preterm Birth Collective Impact Effort seeking Backbone Organization

The Fresno County Preterm Birth Collective Impact Effort invites organizations to apply to be the effort’s Backbone Organization.

Letters of Interest are due by August 27th, 2015.

Background on the Fresno County Preterm Birth Collective Impact Effort

Fresno County has one of California’s highest rates of prematurity 1 out of every 9 babies. Being born too soon can cause serious physical and mental disabilities or even death before the baby’s first birthday. Over the next ten years, this effort will work to improve the health of Fresno’s mothers and reduce the rate of premature babies. Using an approach called Collective Impact, many partners across sectors have come together to create change in Fresno County. This effort is supported by the University of California, San Francisco’s Preterm Birth Initiative and was recently featured in The Fresno Bee. Led by a Steering Committee of leaders from Fresno, the Preterm Birth Collective Impact Steering Committee now seeks a Backbone Organization to support the effort.

What is a Backbone Organization?

A backbone organization provides independent staffing that is dedicated to coordinating the various activities and stakeholder groups involved in a collective impact initiative. The key roles and capabilities of an effective Backbone Organization, as well as the full details about this opportunity, are described in the documents available for download below.

How to apply to serve as the Backbone Organization

Any organization (or partnership among multiple organizations) interested to serve as the Backbone Organization should review the full instructions below and submit a Letter of Interest (LOI) using the template provided:

The LOI should present the applicant’s abilities to perform the functions and capabilities of a strong Backbone Organization. The deadline to submit an LOI is August 27, 2015.
