About the Summit
We were proud to co-sponsor the first Reproductive Justice Summit in San Francisco! The summit invited San Francisco community members, healthcare providers, community-based organizations and youth to come together to envision a reproductive healthcare system in San Francisco based on anti-racist and community-centered values. The Summit's goal was to develop recommendations that will increase equity and improve the quality of reproductive care for Black/African American communities in San Francisco.
Additional event sponsors included the Black Women's Health & Livelihood Initiative of the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health, Expecting Justice, SF Department of Public Health, Anthem Blue Cross, the SF Health Plan, and Exygy.
Participants Take-Aways:
- Explored how the historical roots of racism manifest in current sexual health services
- Engaged in facilitated dialogues between Black/African American community members, health care leaders, and front line clinic staff
- Challenged current clinical practices in order to envision innovative sexual health care models
By centering the voices of Black/African American women and other representatives of San Francisco’s Black/African American communities, participants created actionable recommendations to improve safety-net clinic practices that are grounded in community experiences, concerns, and expertise.
